Be Prepared! Be Very Prepared!

Believing I had a job interview scheduled for Thursday I was surprised when I checked my e-mail late yesterday afternoon and there was a request to change it to - gasp!!@@##@**- today! I had a lot of scrambling to do because being the procrastinator that I am, I thought I had plenty of time to be prepared! The Girl Scout Motto, isn't it? Be prepared? I think I have made a mistake, along with long history of my mistakes, and it is actually the boy scout motto - but it fits. Always be prepared. Good words to live by. And die by.

I was not prepared to go to a job interview early in the morning. I thought I could find a hair stylist today or tomorrow. Yet, I found myself in front of the bathroom mirror trimming up my hair. Thank God the chopped unsymmetrical look is not all that uncommon.

The jacket I was planning on wearing looked good, but when I slipped it on I realized it was so very, very, very 1990-ish. All the way to the puffy padded shoulders. I whipped out the trusty scissors again and snipped out the pads and the jacket entered the 21st century, even if it now looked a little big one me. Looking big is better than padded.

In some weird bizarro world way, I really like the retail job I am working in the meantime. It allows me to be extremely nice to people, which is my true nature anyway. And the folding and refolding of shirts and tee's is very zen-like and relaxing. There is always something to do. Check the bathrooms, fold some tee's, face the candles, sort the stuffed animals, clean the finger prints off the windows. I'm a natural.

But, the pay stinks.

Maybe this other job will fall into place.

After all, I was prepared.

In the crapshoot of job hunting, may you roll a 7.

Or at least on the first roll. So if you didn't roll a seven on the first roll, say, for example you rolled a 5, then I would NOT be saying "roll a 7"... I would say "roll a 5". Unless I had a bet on that you would "crap out". Which I didn't. But I digress...

Um, hope you get the job.

Glad you clarified. I kept thinking, "I thought she had a job." Nonetheless, good luck! Oh, and I LOVE the picture. So funny.

I hope your interview went well. I often think retail would be a good job to have, I wouldn't have the responsibility I have now and that seems welcoming sometimes. Good luck - hope it comes through and you hear soon.

Lisa, I feel the same way about responsibility and jobs. I honestly do not want to be the person in charge. At the end of the day I want to go home to my family and simply enjoy life. I do not want to stress about the finances (accounting. yikes!) or the legal issues or the hiring/firing issues.

I make an exemplary Executive Officer (second in commond) I make a terrible Commanding Officer.

I applaud you for not wikipedia-ing/googling the motto, or at least not doing so and then editing the post. I'm genuinely annoyed at the recent know-it-all attitude online, where every opinion and recollection must be backed up by two sources or its dismissed out of hand. What a boring f*ing way to live, constantly editing yourself - blogs aren't thesis papers for pete's sake.

And I'm sick of my menial in-between jobs job too. I may as well have dropped out of high school at 15,because those are the same people who can do my job.

OMG....trying to catch up on your blog has been a delightful trip down memory lane. I used to work as a floater at K-mart...Oh the pay totally sucked but the job was wonderful. I received 9 Employee of the Month Awards and a Chairman's Award (corporate)....but the pay really really totally sucked and I moved on. Sometimes I still miss it though.

Good luck with all interviews...I know you will be snatched up by a better paying employer soon...but you are going to miss retail.
