HOW TO PULL YOURSELF OUT OF A FUNK

Go Shopping for Greeting Cards!

I was balancing my cheek book and feeling slightly ill. It had been raining all day. My hair was ruined at 630 am. One of the Smart Aleck's has taken another job and will be leaving us. I find I still want to run my daughters life. She hung up on me, rightly so.

It was in this state that I dragged into Walmart with the hopes to find Indian Candy Corn. It is that time of year. The only time of year the stores have that heavenly chocolate delicacy.

Suddenly I was momentarily blinded. A vivid glitter-glow, all luminous and shiny with a thousand hues of orange, the brand new card section screaming HALLOWEEN at me!

My mood immediately lifted as I picked out cards for my rotten daughter, my best bud, my good friend in Lexington, my Senior pen pal, my long lost friend in Louisville, the crew I left behind, and my Mom!!

Who knew?

I also found the candy!!

I work with a woman who is a card-a-holic. But it's great, she has the perfect card for every person for whatever occasion comes up. And sometimes they are so funny I am glad I didn't stumble upon them in the store because I know I would have stood there howling. Nice!

I love buying cards for everyone for every occassion. I have my childhood best friend and being we were true fans of Dark Shadows, we give each other bats for Halloween. I already have my bag of the candy my Mom brought it buy!
I love the Fall. :)

My problem is that seldom take the time to "stop and look at the cards." I'm an as needed card buyer. I do love seeing the card displays change with the seasons. I also love the change of seasons--but that's the stuff of another blog.

My love affair with candy corn was scuttled in the great candy corn caper of 1992. My office mates at the time covertly inundated my workspace with the stuff for several months. I at candy corn jack-o-lanterns, Christmas trees, pastel rabbit candy corn sculptures, a candy corn volcano and loose piles of candy corn detritus until every last vestige of my fondness for that candy was snuffed. It used to be my favorite and now I can't think of it without stifling a heave. All that is left for me now is my distant friendship with Circus Peanuts and anybody who understands Circus Peanuts knows that they are more closely related to crude oil than any known vegetable product. Sorry for long response. Candy Corn is still and open wound in my life.

I have two greeting card programs for my 'puter, so I don't let myself buy cards. There are some cute ones out there, though...
