Wednesday

Grace in Small Things
August 25th

1) Squirrels, chipmunks and a wide variety of birds nosily awaiting the arrival of my mother and her bird seed pan.

2) 45 minute walk/run through the WC Park, my sanctuary which I very rarely am able to get to since moving away five years ago.

3) Seeing old photo's at Mom and being very struck by the clothes I was wearing. I loved that suede calf length coat with the huge fur collar. It went out of style and now recently it's making a comeback.

4) Spending afternoon with Bridget - shopping (for her) and lunch and visiting her old place of work and getting her old job back.

5) Did I mention that her "old place of work" is owned by one of the Animal House brothers brother? Small world and astonishing world at times.

Tuesday

Grace in small things
August 24th

1) When I walked into the bay this morning everyone seated in there greeted me with a robust "Good morning Mary!!" very cool.

2) Drive to Lex under the full moon was beautiful

3) Mrs. Long Suffering brought an extra Frozen cappuccino for me. Milk shake two days in a row - oh boy.

4) The maintenance guy who was so down and out gave me a big hug.

5) Have you ever had a moment where some memory, a thought just flies into your head from nowhere! I remembered my old "high heeled sneakers' that I got at an old defunct shoe store in Lex many years ago. They were in the red white and blue style, sort of in a flag montage. They were high and I did wait tables with them on. I don't know how...I probably even ran in them on several occasions (like catching someone inadvertently walking out on their check!)

Monday Aug. 23

Grace in small things

1) Found Nigella Cooks on the new Food channel. I have always loved Nigella and her love of chocolate.

2) I came home and made myself take a long walk around town.

3) .......Because I ate a banana milk shake that afternoon

4) The tobacco barns are smoking with the new crop of "smokeless tobacco" being cured. It smells like autumn in the air.

5) Found tucked away another Elvis sticker which I immediately slapped on my new (next) moleskine. Stickering and decorating the moleskines is so much fun.

AUgust 21st

1) I was on my way to Biscuit Bucket to report for work and I noticed, about two miles down the trail, that I had neglected to iron my peach colored oxford shirt. Oops. Got sent home, like I was dreading was going to happen. Oh well, went home and switched shirts and farted around, cleaned out kitty liter, checked Facebook and then headed back. I decided I truly was wrong and no need to get all upset at Heather Be Thy Name being such a stickler to such small things.

Tuesday

August 17th
Grace in Small Things
262/365

1) Found a lost phone number of an old friend that I jotted down a near two years ago when she left me a voice message. Misplaced by accident? Dear friend who took the wrong train out of the station and makes you question the lengths one should go to help a friend, be a friend and when it is just enabling and detrimental to ones own mental health. Oh the stories! I put the number in a safe place.
2)Joe went through a weeks worth of garbage in the hopes that the box was still there. And it was. Yucky but definitely fortunate. Building case against Cruela DeTrainwreck.
3)Finding Trailer Park Boy tv show clips on Youtube. The "Rickyisms" are priceless. The show is priceless! Too bad it is only available on channel 101 on Direct TV. It grows on you!
4) 101st Airborne article in the paper regarding the celebration of the creation of the Division (is it a division?) because my Dad was one of the first 101st and the history of WWII is his history. Parachuting into occupied France, Beach of Normandy, Battle of the Bulge. True hero's.
5) Two more companies have agreed to donate samples and the such to our Baby Fair! It's coming together nicely.

1) Dreamed like it was the Saturday afternoon triple feature! Story line and all.

4) Hearing the trains lonesome howl early in the morning. I know the code now - three long ones one short one.

Eagles Nest Trip

259/365
Grace in Small Things
Saturday August 14th

1) Joe off work - let me rephrase that, Joe worked the phone all day directing things but was able to drive to Paris Landing with me for a meet at the Eagles Nest with several of the Animal House gang.
2) Eagles Nest - the best place I've found in this area so far. Too bad it is an hours drive from the house. A beautiful outside bar and restaurant on the Kentucky Lake that hosts a marina. Bands play on the "Dock" and it is just a taste of the Caribbean right here in TN.
3) Met the owner who was an old acquaintance back in the day. He didn't remember me, but I remembered him because he was one of three brothers. I told him I hung out at his brothers house at Winchester Apts. and he rattled off all the occupants of the "apartments" (which were actually little one bedroom, two room bungalows) that sat on the circle. It was the one of the most coveted area's in College town. Ah, the partying times of summer of '74.
4) The heat index was well over 100 the day before and people had told me that they had gaged 107 degrees on their outdoor thermometers! Holy smokes! So I drug out my bathing suit cover up that was made for me in Jamaica by a seamstress on the beach and lo and behold, it fit! Like a glove. But it was heaven to be in a cool dress on the dock.
5) A huge storm blew over and the place almost became deserted except for a handful of us. It was so much fun talking and planning Homecoming with them. We are going to have t-shirts made up thay say "Aminal House seen it? Hell, I lived it!"

Friday the 13th

3) Great horoscope in paper today.
4) Mrs. Long Suffering comes into office to do the AP's for Mr. Big Guy.
5) Winner winner chicken dinner.

Yesterday - All my troubles seemed so far away

Grace in Small Things
Thursday Aug 12th

1) One of the Maintenance crew is a young man of 21 years. First time out on his own. Very naive and sheltered. Had some "friends" steal his rent money and X-box. Miss Ice Queen (or MD1 I can't make up my mind) decides to champion his cause b/c he is totally ill equipped to cope and deal with situation. She calls agencies b/c he is being evicted etc. trying to raise money for him. I go to bank and take out some money to help out. I keep thinking that God sends it back to you 100 times. I believe it, it's not why I do it, but I have seen it happen over and over to my parents. As God does things, the Salvation Army Reps walk through the door for a meeting with Prop Mgr. (guess they want to Ring-a-ding at Christmas). I get two very good referrals and a significant Name Drop for Poor Little Maintenance Guy. He and Ice Queen head out door. Hope it all works out for him. He's a good kid.

2) That fabulous chocolate mousse yogurt

3) Running into girl who "would know" at Biscuit Bucket picking up check and asking about organizations and churches who help out in dire emergencies. She gives me two more names.

4) Have a box of Gevalia coffee waiting for me at home.

5) Along with another IRS letter (damn those stupid laws) is another letter from the bank I have the loan for my trusty turbo boost Sonata. The last bank draft, which is about 1/3 of the usual amount, will be taken out Aug 22nd and THE CAR IS PAID OFF!

Added bonus - Joe and I dance around kitchen waving the bank letter and stomping on the IRS letter (well, maybe not really)

4) Corp. shows up at work and I get to meet the next generation of Mall Mafia.
5) Watch all the shows on DVR that I have been taping except for Next Food Network star. I accidentally erased them all b/c Joe was complaining that we only had 33% available on the thing. But - I found it being rebroadcast at 2am on Wed. so its all good.

#252/365
Grace in Small Things

1) Get the Wilma report from a visiting retail manager at Biscuit Bucket.
2) Fashion show went off with out a hitch, that is if you don't count the pugnacious mother in the dressing room. Why do some people get all attitude?
3) Went to liquor store to get my drink on when I ran into a group of CA girls complaining to the owner about how the store bagged a very expensive bottle of vodka in a flimsy bag which subsequently ripped and crashed to the floor and busted! Horrors! They were so indignant and full of vim & vigor that I loved it. One of them commented about the outrageous prices in Tennessee (they are) holding up a bottle of Skyy "This is the cheap stuff in California!" and another ragged on C-ville for not recycling. lol. I loved them. I also informed them that they could purchase liquor cheaper in Kentucky, they were headed to Owensboro.
4) Went home and took a nap - woke up at 1030pm! Commenced to make another killer curry dish and play on facebook.
5) Spoke to Auntie M on phone. She sounds strong and happy. Will see her tomorrow.

Number 251

Friday August 6th
Grace in Small Things

1) Realize I needed to include a form with the day before IRS crap and when I go to look for it, it is right on top of where I think it might be. Thanks Dad.
2) On way to work I realize it is the first day of school in this area (do not feel sorry for them as they have a schedule that includes half day practically every week and a fall/winter/spring break and numerous holidays and mental health days. It's ridiculous) Anyway, on the side of the six mile two lane stretch into TN there is a cluster of vehicles at the end of a long long driveway with several little bitty tykes all decked out in their first day of school attire and back packs, new shoes and pig tails. They are so cute being walked across the highway and loaded on the bus. I recall my Mom following us all the way down the street with those hand held camera that had that choppy black and white film every single year for three years running to document our first day of school, climbing on the bus, waving from the steps - ah, the memories.
3) Tax free week-end begins and it is busy!
4) Have a blow out evening at Biscuit Bucket
5) Get through another day without yelling or hurting someones feelings.

Thursday August 5

Grace in Small Things

2) Able to finally get the Animal House pic's sent to me on the computer
3) One of the guys uses our pic as his FB pic - ahhhhhhhhh
4) Get my IRS stuff in the mail - at least I do not have to overnight it. Find that saying,"My IRS problems" covers a lot of ground and is a handy excuse/explanation for a host of things.
5) Slowly regaining my balance about the job/relocation possibility situation.

August 4

Grace in Small Things

1)p/u fixed computer
2)out of sorts but did not take it out on anyone though it was tempting
3) new pink sunglasses to replace lost very cool purple Wayfarer knock-offs w/ heart
4) Work at BB w/ new girl. I really like NG, but I find she does not listen and talks a lot, interrupts and is a trifle loud and a trifle obnoxious w/o meaning to be because she is also just a trifle Too Large For Life - anyway, she said that Heather-Be-Thy-Name came into the store on her day off, or after she left, changed into something a little more provocative and something a little tighter to show off her six feet killer figure. HBTN stops in the middle of the store, bends over and flings her long blond hair over her head, fluffs it all out and flings it back and shakes her head and proceeds to enter the restaurant. "What was that?" new girl asks Candi, "That was Heathers mating dance." Candi answered. Have I mentioned how much I love Candi.
5) I ain't got nothing more. The day ended and I tolerated everyone without being a mean shit.

1) Bridget turns 30. How did this happen?
2) No work. No where. My day off from working the week-end coincides with day off from Biscuit Bucket.
3) Things work out with Joe more or less concerning his job. And in some weird way, it's even better......in the long run.
4) Drinking a beer laced with blueberry pomegranate in the middle of the afternoon watching the food network channel.
5) Finding something that was lost. I wrote it down in my trusty moleskine, but I can't read my handwriting. But it made me happy enough to record it. It looks like "card". A credit card? A birthday card? A membership card? Who knows, what was lost is found.

August 2, 2010

Monday
247/365
Grace in Small Things

1) Got a telephone call from Joe telling me some stuff surrounding his job and I realize my world might just be rocked again! And I realize just how happy I have become here, in this little spot in West KY. And I understand how fleeting it all can be. Grabbing the moment, realizing things, gaining an understanding about yourself - the Grace in Small Things has helped center me and guide me to focus on all the good in my life. How absolutely happy I am. And how that can all crash down in one moment.
2) Receive the Animal House disc in the mail to post.
3) Computer is down again....take it to a guy I met running the computer fix -r-up dept. at one of the stores on the facility grounds. He is a sweet heart and so totally unlike Best Buy with it's diagnostic down payment and long wait for your computer to be fixed and then ask for more money - no, this place was a dream.
4)Work at Biscuit Bucket as if in a trance. But, I got to work with K. again, who I hardly ever see since we are now the "old timers" at the BB and usually split up for efficiency.
5) Make it through the day without breaking down and crying.

August 1, 2010

Star War Saturday

1) It doesn't get any better than this. I was born for this job and I am so lucky that I finally found it, in the twilight of my working career.

2) A lady bug hitched a ride with me this afternoon. I believe they are good luck?

3) The bouncy house people show for out event.

4) I find some pastel pink business envelopes at the old Kinko's. I have a hard time calling it Fed Ex Office as Kinko's was a big part of my college experience.

5) The faces of the kids at the Star War meet and greet.

July 30

244/365

1) Manager on Duty which means do not go into the Mall until 1pm. A delicious morning to myself. Rare.

2) Call Deb in FL for the an update about her life.

3) Have a good hair day!

4) Finally wash and clean out car.

5) Make a trip to Goodwill and find Moosewood Restaurant cook book from early 80's. Accept the glaring reality that I am becoming obsessed with collecting cook books.

Thursday

July 29th
Grace in Small things
243/365

1) One of the Mall contractors brings in donuts. What a great way to start the work week.

2) While heading out the door to my car for work my next door neighbor yells at me, "Good morning. You're looking mighty fine today!". Does a girls heart good.

3) Joe left for Memphis. I look forward several days of only ME home alone.

4) Decide I will cook a recipe from yesterdays paper, a curry dish. I have never cooked with curry before. I imagine it is some kind of ingredient from a bottle, like soy sauce.

5) Go to Kroger, which is like going to Neiman Marcus. I pick up cilantro and a terrific cut of pork. Also some Ranger cookies. Those things should be outlawed. Eat about six cookies on the way home and loose interest in cooking the curry dish.

July 28th

Grace in Small Things
242/365

1) Temp's last day at the Mall and I will miss her sweet SD voice (not everyone talks like the people in Fargo, she tells me. If I based SD accents on hers, everyone would speak like they are 12 years old) but hopefully she will remain at the Mall working at one of the jewelry stores, but not the "Ho" store. I interviewed for an open position at this particular store when I first arrived in this fair city last year. I did not get the job. Fast forward to this year, walking through the Mall with Joe we pass this store. Several of the associates are standing out side the show room people watching. "That is the store that did not hire me" I remark as we pass by. Joe turns his head, checks out the two associates, turns back to me and replies, No wonder, your "Ho" factor is not high enough".

2) Received three mini Yankee Candles (one is Farmers Market - wow its nice!) for a job well done selling our quota and beyond at Biscuit Bucket.

3) Sometime earlier in the week, Monday maybe, I had made my daily journey to Walmart and picked up squash, The squash was priced at $1.79 or some other totally absurd price because everyone knows squash practically grows wild. Kroger had it on sale for 77 cents per pound. Needless to say, Walmat no longer carries the competitions ad sheet at the cash registers as their customer service level decreases in direct correlation to their remodel. I am told that if I bring in the Kroger ad and go to customer service they will match the ad. So on Wednesday I go in with my receipt and the Kroger ad. No hassle and in two minutes I have my money refunded (about 3.50) and then recharged at the 77 cent price. I come out about tow dollars ahead. I thank my Mom for passing on this shopper gene to me.

4) It's hump day.

5) I have a new friend at Biscuit Bucket, The Gilded Lilly. She is a hoot and lots of fun. And Candi loves her too. Candi hardly likes anybody.
