2) "She kicked out the #1 Sales person of the week?" Oh yea, I was! lol.
3) Mulling over maybe quitting but will wait and see what the fall out looks like.
4) Picked up pictures from Walmart that were scheduled to p/u in a week. Got them back in two days - paid the much lesser amt.

JUNE 7TH

Monday
190
Grace in Small Things

1) Found a handful of M&M's in my purse hidden and lost (forgotten) in my side pocket. Wonderful treasure.

2) Headed to Biscuit Bucket and found out one of my fav's Ms. Wilma is leaving. I had words (again) with Heather and she sent me home. I don't give a big GD. She is suppose to be some hot shot manager and she has yet to figure out I do not respond well with people getting in my face and telling me what to do. She is such a prick.

3) I feel almost giddy with the prospect she is going to fire me. Joe says its insubordination when she tells me to do something and I question the soundness of that order. Is this the army? He just shakes his head.

4) I sleep like a log.

5) Can you tell I did not write anything down for this day? Other than the M&M's.

Sunday

189/365
Grace in Small Things June 5th

1) No work anywhere! All day lay around and do nothing!
2) Lay around and watch the Trailer Park Boys Movie
3) Made a wonderful Chicken dinner with rice
4) Yakked on phone with Mom
5) Did I mention no work, no travel, no place to be. Joe called and told me about the 68/80 400 mile yard sale and I was getting ready to head 25 miles north to pick up 68/80 and I said, "no! Not going to do it! Just not going to move the car one inch today" and I didn't!

It it's Sauurday its 188

June 4th
Grace in Small parts

1) Omega's birthday.
2) Finally get the oil changed in my car! Thank God for ViOC.
3) Able to read the NY Times at library
4) My eye hurt, think I had an eye lash stuck in it, I look up just in time to see Candi throw one of those silly rubber ballies at me and duck like Pres. Bush seeing a shoe. She laughs. She is in for it.
5) Finished the Sue Grafton Book because once again was able to fool around all day until 6pm and Biscuit Bucket time.

Friday Friday Friday

187/365
Grace in Small Things
June 3rd

1) Made a huge salad with apples and raisins and Chinese noodles purple cabbage carrots regular lettuce and celery. Low cal ranch. OMG - I could eat this all day long. Thanks Mom.

2) Broke out my yellow Kino's and broke the Mafia law about showing toes. Will I live to tell or swim with the fishies?

3) The schedule at Biscuit Bucket I find I have been knocked down to only two days!! WTH! WTF? Oh yea, my crack about her not knowing what Memorial Day is all about. Is this a blessing in disguise? I am very cranky and crusty at times.

4) Help one of my selections for the display cases by pulling some mannequins out of store for them to use. The maintenance guys need to transport signage I removed from the display case and return to store. "Which one is it?" they ask, "Look for a cart full of body parts and you'll find it" "10-4" they respond. They respond as if they incur body parts all the time.

5) I love my job (wish it paid more)

Number 186

Grace in Small Things
186/365
Thursday

1) Had an attack of something and left really late for work. Mrs. Long Suffering clocked me in so I did not have to explain a tardy to the Mafia.

2) My tummy hurt from eating too much of all that wonderful red twist candy!

3) Ice Queen left for a long long weekend and left me in charge of the department! I ran around all day! All day! Happy as a Lark! I love being in charge.

4) Picked out who could put up a display!

5) Went around doing so other really cool stuff - oh yea, soliciting for Father's Day gifts.

Number 185/365

Grace in Small Things
June 2nd

1) Sold 4 Cd's on Amazon (this will not last long as the Amazon barracuda's know how to squash me like a bug)
2) Got to work with Candy
3) Realized its Wednesday and Hump day! Like this short week stuff

June 1st

Grace in small things
184/365
Tuesday

1) Have words with Heather-Be-Thy-Name. She had written on our assignment card "greet every soldier/military with great respect! It's their day" referring to Memorial Day the day before. I pointed her error to her and said, "only if they're dead" and she unleashed on me. Walking away in her haughty high school girl pony tail swishing like a horse swatting at flies, "My Dad's in the ground...." Well hell, so is mine, but Veterans day is for the living, Memorial Day for the departed. Joe tells me I bring the worst out in her and for God's sake, why do I have to point that out to her, rub her nose in it. Because she brings out the devil in me, oh yea.

2) Joe found out we owe the government (2008) (got caught) and he did not have a melt down. He threatened to leave then asked me what was for dinner.

3) My Bro and his lovely wife are almost finished painting up the house in IN for our new tenant.

4) Thank God it's June.

5) Kind of sort of became very lax in writing stuff down for GiSt's. But glad I was so dedicated for such a long time. So from now on, for while, they are going to be short. Maybe only one thing per day.

MEMORIAL DAY 2010

183/365
Monday
Grace in Small Things

1) Take Mom to ceremony at Camp Nelson.
2) Visit Dads graveside and say prayers with Mom
3) Taps played at end of ceremony was terribly moving. Two bugles playing, one playing from the hill side on the other side of the ceremony area several bars behind the first. Tears just streaming down every ones face. Beautiful.
4) Lunch at Mom's house. Salad with raisins and apples and Chinese noodles. Delish.
5) E-mail from the long lost buddy who I found running a web site earlier in week.

I'm Grateful

I'm Grateful
THursday
179/365
May 27th

1) I'm grateful that I have a husband with a odd sense of humor who enjoys watching Trailer Park Boys and thinks its hysterical. And so do I. Where has this show hidden all this time? Tonight it was the puppet Konkie - I laughed so hard.
2) I'm grateful that I have this silly job at Biscuit Bucket. Not so much because I like the job, but because it gives me the extra moo la to stash away in a savings account for emergencies. And with four kids and two grand kids between us, it comes in handy.
3) I'm grateful that I work with people who throw rubber balls at me and make me laugh. I would go insane other wise.
4) I'm grateful that my I have these two cats who are so different from each other but love to chase each other around, even if it is 430am. Three Legged Cat goes "Thump Thump Thump"
5) The second Trailer Park show had some sort of crazy award ceremony/contest for Trailer Park Supervisor to be awarded by some Big Wig from the trade publication. He walked around with a drink in his hand much like Julian (you have to watch it to know what and why its so funny). He corners Ricky and tells him to look him in the eye, "I have NO CANDY for you" he bellows at him (you also have to see it for it to make any sense). So - Three Legged Cat get the B&W down on the bed and lifts up one of his front paws and lets it hang there so B&W can see it and know what's coming. I'm watching it all play out, fascinated when I hear this voice behind me (Joe also watch the cat drama play out) "I have NO CANDY for you!" In other words I am grateful that I am easily amused.

5) Completed a to-do list

Tuesday #177

May 25th (?)
Grace in Small Things

1) Watching NCIS with Joe (he hates the show!?! but indulges me)
2) The dew on the early morning grass glittered like small diamonds
3) Started new ball throwing game at Biscuit Bucket with Candi (it's a soft rubber ball with lots of little rubber arms and it's fun to smack someone on the side/back of the head with it)
4) There was an mandatory meeting that was going on when I got there and thank God I was not assigned a time to be there. In other words, she forgot about me. Heather Be Thy Name. Dodged the bullet. (Candi not so lucky - she missed hers on Sunday)
5) Made the starving student dish of canned chili with elbow macaroni - it was GREAT!

May 24

Monday
Grace in Small Things

May 23

A PICTURE IS WORTH A THOUSAND WORDS

MAY 23, 2010
Sunday
175/365
Grace in Small Things

1) Ron is still hilarious. Commenting on one of our inabilities to hold our liquor "Yea I remember. Hit him in the ass with a concord grape and he was drunk"

2) John spun tales of events and happenings that I failed to remember but with his magical retelling it seemed like yesterday. The Hairy Buffalo parties. Everyone was required to bring a bottle of alcohol, no beer allowed, and pour it into the base of grape juice, brown sugar and sherbet all stirred up into a bubbling mess in a huge plastic garbage can.( "We tried to have a new one on hand" Ron explained to Joe). How we all had to take the first drink out of the passed around toilet plunger, much like a chalice ("We always tried to have a new one on hand" Ron explained to Joe.) Finding a baseball glove at the bottom of the proverbial barrel.

3) The greatest story of them all was about IJK Jr. He holed up in the frat house for a whole week not going to classes. Then he went around and told all his professors that cattle rustlers attacked his parents ranch and shot his father "Right next to the heart" and being the eldest son, he had to go home and run the family business.

4) Joe indulging me.

5) It helped that we were on a beautiful boat dock marina.

May 22

Number 175
Saturday May 22
Grace in Small Things

1) Senior Fair with Fashion Show - once again a great event.
2) Cleaned the kitchen and it is sparkling!
3) Great pictures from event.
4) Off to second job at Biscuit Bucket and when I left at 8pm I could have been walking on air.
5) New hair dye - very dark and sort of scary looking, but no one mentioned it so it must just be me.

THANK GOD! IT'S FRIDAY

Grace in Small Things
May 21
174/365

1) Was going out to run an errand and Chris (Maint Super) calls out to me, "Be careful going out into the rain. Sugar melts". It was just so cute.
2) Once again dug a salad out of the refrig at work from days earlier and it was still good!
3) While running my errand I noticed that my new bank has a location at Walmart. Hurray! Did not have to fight the traffic and drive down Wilma Rudolph on Friday afternoon (the main drag).
4) Dreamed I owned a restaurant and woke up with a really peaceful feeling.
5) Out of the Blue having the realization that I am so happy!

Thursday

Grace in Small Things
173/365
May 20th

1) Made a bunch of phone call to the merchants to accumulate feed back regarding the huge celebrity event we had on the 1st day of the historic flood. It was a great connection. Got a lot of good feed back.
2) The box of Snicker doodles from Biscuit Bucket.
3) Found my jewelry repair kit in garage without too much difficulty. Was able to repair one of my fav pair of earrings.
4) Found my J. Peterman jacket in the closet, hidden and smashed between the winter coats.
5) Pick up Paycheck from Biscuit Bucket and it is bigger than I expected! So I bought that flimsy cute blouse I've had my eye one for awhile and got it for 70% off plus my discount. Didn't realize it was so marked down! A very pleasant surprise.

Day 172

Wednesday May 19th
Grace in Samll Things
172/365

1) Found lost stamps (under credenza)
2) Prop Mgr making fun of my diploma in a condescending manner piggy backed on the fact that I could not figure out where this horrible high whining sound was coming from. We got into a little one upping regarding his Marketing/Communication degree and my BSBA from the UofL Business School. He was talking about "non-traditional" students in his "only math class" which made me spout off about my endless amount of math classes attached to the BS. Then Ms. Ice Queen came out and we discussed Statistical Analysis. He left the room, probably to fondle his MSU diploma behind closed doors (I'm telling you working two jobs is turning me into a bitch).
3) Went into Biscuit Bucket and Heather-Be-Thy-Name did not read my note before making out the schedule, but I did not have a melt down, I just accepted that things would work out. And hallelujah I am off Sunday! Paris Landing here I come.
4) Oh yea, I am connecting thru FB a lot of my MSU pals from 30 - 35 years ago. A get together is being planned for this coming Sunday at a bar at a marina in Paris Landing that one of the Brothers manages. Fun. Sweet. I'm so there now.
5) Joe came home.

Day 171

Tuesday May 18th
Grace in Small Things
171/365

1) Made chicken-n-dumplings. Was going to make chicken pot pie, but got too hungry and changed course (haha)
2) Off and Home Alone. How delicious and decedent.
3) Mafia arrived from Ohio and got hugs from little Morticia.
4) Chicken salad sandwiches from chic-fil-la-la . Oh Momma.
5) Sat in car and had no obligations, no place to go, no one waiting for me. What does one do? One goes shopping! (found nothing)(looking for shoes).

Day 170

May 17th, Monday
Grace in Small Things
170/365

1) Honeysuckle
2) Biscuit Bucket with Candi (maybe I say this too often but most the time it is the only thing that gets me through the 14 hour days).
3) Joe in Louisville taking care of house - felt nice to be home alone. Mess that is is the mess I make sort of mentality.
4) Completed some tasks at the Mall that I usually just "assist" with
5) Milk shakes!

May 16th

Day 169/365
Grace in Small Things
Sunday

1) Road trip to Ver. to see Mom and by bro home from NYC.

2) Joe and I had a good Bill Maher discussion regarding his atheism.

3) All my siblings together in one room!! Great dinner.

4) Apple fritter from this small little place in Russellville. OMG - Joe told me they had cherry fritters and they did not, but the apple fritter was the best I ever had.

5) Last of Survivor. Kind of glad Russell did not win (again) because he rules by being a bully. Kind of glad Sandra won, but my heart was for either Colby or Jeri to win (one of the hero's). That Paveroti chick was good too. Hey! Anybody but Russell, I was happy.

Day 168

168/365
Saturday May 15th
Grace in Small Things

1) I was ambivalent about the Most Beautiful Baby contest but ended up having a blast!
2) I was a judge for the contest (lord help me) and I amused myself and the vote
counter with my notes. One of the babies, in the 2-3 year old range, looked just like Cartman, from Southpark! I added new categories for the judging like "best hair" and "Best throw up'. As I said, it was a blast.
3) When one of the participants Mothers verbally attacked Ms. Ice Queen about the age brackets and the over all event and was told "YOU SUCK" at that moment I thanked God she got the job and not me.
4) Made up the gift baskets for the prizes and I must say I need to add that to my list of duties as a Mkt. Asst., they looked divine.
5) Joe got mad at me, can't for the life of me remember why (oh yea, I am not much of a morning person and get out of my way when I am running late and don't ask me to do easy stuff for later like mail a triple A card to a 15 year old and bait me into a fight) and took off - maybe forever. But, he called a little bit later and was coming home. Asked if we still had the same old cats.

Day 167

Grace in Small Things
167/365
May 14th, 2010 Friday

1) Was called to the door with a fierce pounding. It was the kid next door, "Your Three Legged Cat is being chased by a dog!" I ran outside and found a group of school ready kids surrounding the mini van and TLC hunkered under it,hissing and terrified. The next door lady (the skinny smoker who is/was unfriendly) holding the yapping small black and brown dog who was happily trying to get back down and play with the cat. "He tried to climb the tree, but couldn't lake it b/c of his tree legs! The dog had a mouthful of fur!" I dragged TLC out from under the running vehicle and rushed him into the house where I did a quick once over. No wounds, just where he had been gummed. Now we are all friends, except the cat and the wayward dog.

2) Left the Mall early to go to Biscuit Bucket. I am weary of the Mall this week.

3) Found some old protein bars one of our merchants gave us for swag bags. I am craving protein these days. It was dinner.

4) For the first time ever I brought in my diploma and hung it in my office, the one I never get to use. My diploma is a monster. I think UofL wanted their sheepskins to be twice the size of UK's. It looks so cool in there. While at the Beverage Co. I had a cubicle and not walls per se. In Ft. Wayne I shared a box with the three guys, so no available wall space. I just remembered that my "wall" was the huge window. Jeez.

5) Decided to skip the Farmers Market venture and sleep in on Sat. morning. A huge relief.

Day 166

May 13, 2010
Grace in Small Things
166/365 days

1) Anniversary - 6 years! (is that possible?)
2) Love Survivor and love watching the show. So sad that it is going to end soon
3) Had a pizza party with our Fashion Advisory Board teenagers with pizza from Chicago Pizza which I had to solicit (successfully)
4) Got the secret recipe for the lemonade at Suzy's.
5) Asked to write down everything I do at work as the asst. Got really upset that she slashed through everything and commented, "That comes under assist". I am a vindictive bitch when my feelings are hurt. I am such a good business writer and she is not. It is one of her glaring faults. While a student at UofL the Business Dept. pounded writing in every class. So I know a few tricks - it might not be tricks, it's just a method. She has never been taught a method of presenting ideas in a concise informative way. When she slashed through my "write business letters" and said, "that's under assist Mkt. Director" I decided right then and there to never rearrange her ill thought out mumbo jumbo of attempted communication. I'm just going to check her spelling. I am a mean vindictive bitch. But when I signed on I knew I was going to have my idea's taken and presented as her own - it's just part of the way things are. What good came out of this? I guess that I realize my strengths are many and varied and I have to accept my limitations/weaknesses - I am fairly unambitious. (and can't spell worth a damn).

1) Woke up in Louisville - first day off in approx. 31 days
2) Went to Douglas Loop and into the Breadworks and bought a walnut-cranberry scone with a cup of java.
3) Became a consumer for the day beginning with the Fresh Market and a bag of sweet & salty mix - (yummy, need to make at home, but why does it taste so good when someone else does it?), on to Rainbow Health Food.......
4) Pick up my daughter, spend the day with her (shopping)
5) Lunch at Wicks, only the best pizza ever!

4) Went shopping at my favorite store ALDI.

5) Amazing Race finale and the only team I did not want to win won. But still, great show, great season.

Day 161

Saturday May 8
Grace in Small Things

1) My Mother's Day event!! Had that feeling so I went in much earlier than required and found that incorrect information had been given to maintenance staff regarding the set up for the event. "No! It's not today", they were told by their fearless and clueless leader, "Mother's Day is Sunday". (he is smoking crack. We never have an event on Sunday!). So I arrived in time to help throw up the stage and the pipe and drape, assemble the tables and was just finishing when the radio station showed up. Whew, thank God for having that funny feeling.

2) But before that, I was at Biscuit Bucket once again working a rare morning shift and there was this good looking guy across the room waving at me and I thought, "Who is that good looking guy?" and it was Joe. I need glasses.

3) Heather Be Thy Name is on vaca and they send some green just hired in March straight from Pier One as a roaming manager waiting for someone to get the ax then she will acquire her own store to supervise us over the crazy Mothers Day week-end. Us...three of us with lots and lots of Biscuit Bucket experience especially under the reign of the tyrant AKA Queen of the Damned. In other words, get out of the way bitch. She told me she wanted me to stand at the entrance to the restaurant and re-greet guests as they finished their meal and headed to the cash register to pay. I told her that was non-productive and that I would do what I did best which is to roam around the area and talk to the guests looking at the merchandise. She actually talked one of us into doing it the next day! She was doing it all by the book. She was a sweet kid, but once again, get out of the way! Did not get fired for insubordination.

4) While assuming my duties as MOD at the Mall, all was quiet until around 930 (one half hour before close it down time!)when a kid who had just received his motorcycle licence had a wreck in the back parking lot. He was hurt, but not that badly. Road burn and pretty shaken up. Bike a mess. No insurance.

5) The Mother's Day program went without a hitch and the show was FUN! All that work, coming up with the idea, collecting all the prizes, orchestrating the event - it was so cool. And over in a flash!

Day 160

Friday May 7
160/365
Grace in Small Things

1) First Manager on Duty week-end. Was able to work at Biscuit Bucket in morning. Been a long time since working with the morning crew. It was like old times.

2) Able to go home and change before heading to Mall. Joe's right! There is nothing at home to eat (when was the last time I shopped at Aldi?) so I rustled up a coupon for Dairy Queen and it was Chicken Tender Basket for lunch.

3) Gave Mrs. Long Suffering her birthday gift of the Rooster scrub ceramic thingie from Biscuit Bucket she once mentioned that she liked (see how listening can really pay off?). She said she loved it, I was warned not to get her any Rooster stuff because the whole world has gone crazy over the years bestowing her with everything rooster under the sun.

4) The office was ever so quiet after five. I stretched out in my back office (the one I am never in) and read.

5)The head of security, Barney Fife , was kind enough to stick around Friday night to settle me in. The "gangs" of Middle Tenn. hang out at the Mall and sometimes it can be quite an ordeal getting these kids out the door and on their way home. But, the night was uneventful in that sense. But it was fun to see Barney approach a bunch of teenagers and see them scatter like cockroaches. Barney and I bonded in a way (I think he is a pig headed non-bending ass at times). We talked about our own teenage years and how we drove around in cars, riding from one end of town to the other. He knocked off at a Drive-In Restaurant (the grandfather of Sonic) and they hung out until the police told them to go home. I, on the other hand, drove around town with the rest of the kids looking for someone to go buy us Schoenling Little Kings at the liquor store, then we would head out to the back roads and guzzle down our cream ale before it got hot and heave the little green bottle at the back country road signs then head back into town where we would cruise from the Dairy Queen on the west end of town to the Convenient store on the other end of town. Loop around the island infront of the elementary school and back up Main Street. Every body did it - everybody did it. Now I look at these kids hanging at the Mall and kind of feel sorry for them.

Day 159

May 6th
Grace in Small Things
159/365

1) Crispy Cremes for Mrs. Long Sufferings Birthday

2) Found and mailed the perfect Mother's Day card for Mom. Many years ago, too many to even count, my Mother thought she would save money by cutting the boy's hair herself. Now this was in the late '50's and hair cutting was pretty much just flat top's. The oldest came out really well. Mom felt cocky when she began on Bro #2. Oops. He ended up with a shaved head and a little bowl of hair on top. The reason why it is so memorable is because she was cleaning them up for the professional family photographs that were scheduled. Her hair styling abilities captured for future generations on those photographs. Anyway, the card I found was MOM carved out of the back of some poor kids head of hair and the saying "MOM is WOW" upside down.

3) Kate Spade sunglasses. Found them after loosing them for several weeks.

4) My Sirius still works!

5) Finding the name of one of my favorite movies whose name I can never remember. Only saw the movie once, but thought it was so romantic. The Anonymous Venetian. For the longest time I thought it was The Venetian Composer and could never find the movie listed anywhere! It's listed on E-Bay for several hundred dollars. No DVD. Now I know.

I'm Back

DAY 158
Grace in Small Things
May 5th

1) My glasses fell into the toilet at work. I could not believe it! Learned a valuable lesson, do not hang your glasses on your neck then lean over the bowl to flush. Rejoice that they were $1 glasses from Dollar Tree.

2) Getting out of car that same day earlier in the morning, had a mega cup of coffee in my old Coca Cola 24 oz. hard red plastic tumbler and spilled it all down the front of my white blouse! Holy cow!Good thing was the coffee was not real hot and that I had an extra shirt with me. God knows why, no God does know why.

3) Mrs. Long Suffering and I had a long talk about her ill husband. After she finished telling me her tale of woe she said, "I don't know why I am telling you all this! Maybe because when people ask how things are going and I begin to tell them and I see their faces glass over as they try to pretend to listen and care. But you do listen and you do care." Ah, that was so sweet. I know one thing, I am a good listener most the time. I do care and I am interested. Joe would disagree about my listening abilities thought. But then again, wouldn't most husbands?

4) All set up to run the show on Saturday, the Mothers Day event. It's my baby and I am ready.

5) I work in a woman's world at the Bisquit Bucket. We now have a token male who is a restaurant manager. I realized that he is actually gorgeous! What fabulous blue eyes. It was pretty nice because I mentioned it in my notebook for GiST's "Chad has really really blue eyes!"

Just got a milk shake from Mr. Property Manager - it was vanilla with whipped cream and a cherry.

1) Made little cinnamon toast I found on Orangette. Delish.

2) Went to bank to make credit card payment and their computers were down. Was able to crawl across town (still terribly re-routed and flooded) to another branch. Felt lucky there was second branch b/c bill due that day!

3) Lost my brand spanking new bank card activated that day. Found out I had left it in the ATM. I'm an idiot.

4) Woke up at 5am and went to Walmart. Hurray! Walmart open after the mandatory curfew of last night. The cats had no kitty food.

5) Given the green light to sell the Peter posters on Craigslist. Had my first buyer already!

Day 156

156/365
Grace in Small Things
May 3rd, Monday

1) All girls in office. Token male absent. Let the party begin.

2) C-ville is under water. We are approx.5 miles away from downtown, the worst hit area. The Mall is dry despite rumors to the contrary.

3) The Milkshake joke. Goes like this. I went out Friday and bought myself and Mrs. Long Suffering milkshakes. They are buy one get one at Steak and Shake. Somehow the idea got out I was going to bring back a surprise for everyone! I felt like a Dog. A cheapskate Dog at that. Later on Mr.Property Manager goes out and comes in with a milkshake and gives it to Mrs. Long Suffering, "For you, you have had a long bad week", he begins to walk down the hallway turns and grins at me, "Oh Mary, did you want too? Too bad!" and walks off. Very funny. Maybe you had to be here, but it was hilarious.

4) The Ice Queen very happy about the success of the week-end event. Kudos's given to her by the Mafia Boss.

5) Biscuit Bucket closed early due to flood. Hurray!

Day 155

Sunday May 2nd
Grace in Samll Things
155/365

1) Drove to this God Forsaken place with Joe to check on Rail Road crossings in the pouring torrential rain fall. Just being with Joe and both of us chuckling about the Hurricane Wilma was nice.

2)On the way, b/c I was not driving, I was able to check out the area we were passing and scoped out an old timey Hardware store with rockers on the front and plants for sale, a Catfish House and a nursery.

3) Slept until 9am. Wow, I needed it. Re charge the batteries.

4) A little Mexican food trailer set up o/s the gas station in Tiny Town and lo and behold, a woman is running it. I have a firm belief that if a woman is cooking and running the joint, it's going to be cleaner and healthier for you. Raining too hard to stop but still, a line of people huddled under the roof lip of the trailer waiting. Must be good.

5) Porch sale at Biscuit Bucket and I so good.

Day 154

Saturday May 1st
GiST May Day Style
154/365

1) Derby Day! And I had to work at the Mall b/c we had a big celebrity autograph signing event. Yet, I left at 5pm (central time) and made a straight dart for home. Oh no!! The rain had been coming down in buckets all day (and morning, perhaps you have seen the mess in Nashville? over 7 inches of rainfall in one day? Well, Clarksville got the same!) First barrier, the wreck to get on I-24. I was able to skirt around it by just moving over to the shoulder (come on people!! anyone ever traveled I-64!!????)(satisfaction of seeing many others follow my example....geez). Then things slowed again o/s tiny town! A tree down in the road. My God, let's get out of the car and drag it out of the way! There is a Derby to watch! They are saddling up! Made it home just in time to grab a Mint Julep and plop down in front of the tv to see them round the first turn!

2) Had fun working the crown at event. I sold the tickets and was joking with the fans. It was neat-o.

3) Got a fabulous hair cut.

4) Love the Aussie stuff that makes your hair stand on end and stay there.

5) Shared the ticket table with the Mkt. Mgr. from another city. She was not a conversationalist. And I was looking forward to speaking with her as we started our positions around the same time. She responded to my queries with short one syllable answers. My God! She texted the entire time we had a break in our action and then would just stare into the distance. I was so disappointed, as I love to listen to people talk about themselves. Very unusual. The grace in it all was that I had my Bon Appetite magazine handy. Always prepared. I was a Girl Scout.

6) Added bonus GiST's - my Girl Scout training (lol).

Day 153

Grace in small things
April 30th
153/365
Friday

1) Joe home early from tip to MS. Thought he was staying until Sunday, but he cancelled and came home.

2) Thinking Joe was not coming home, picked up a Pizza from Papa Murphy's - a stuffed crust pizza. Those things weigh a ton and taste like a million. Joe thinks they are toooooooooooo fattening (they are).

3) Began reading a new book since I had to return the book I was reading to the library and could not renew because 4 people have requested it (The Girl with the Golden Tatoo...?) (I just read 'em) and it is an English book (sometimes I hate the British way of life, it's so.......British) about two women facing financial difficulties and they begin to produce a heath product. Kind of hit close to home and as soon as I finish catching up on my GiST I'm going to read a little of it.

4) After eating all that great and carbo overload and artery clogging pizza, I fell asleep at 9pm. So much for raising the roof in Joe's absence.

5) Wide awake at 2am! Cleaned kitchen and vacuumed cleaned kitty liter box, cleaned bathroom. Ahhhh...insomnia, you gotta love it.

15 minutes to Hang

Had my eval with Heather Be Thy Name last week and it would appear I am destined to be a Biscuit Bucket Flunky. She was not mean in any way, not snide nor did she really criticize me, so it was only when I saw my total score, slept on it and returned the next day when it sunk in.

I flunked! I'm a Biscuit Bucket Flunky.

"You sales number are off", she stated almost in a sympathetic tone, "and Amy asked me what was going on with you and I told her I honestly didn't know. Sometimes I am in the store and you don't realize it until I leave. I stood outside and watched you once. I think you may be tired from working two jobs. But, lately your numbers have improved! You are back in the top two!"

I am thinking, "I'm working nights and closing for God's sake you crazy bitch."

Out loud I did say, "That's because you have had me on the schedule to work Sat and Sun afternoons recently".

Then there was a whole litany of thing I am not doing.....

A flunky, just a flunky. She asked me what I would score myself and I know she speaks the truth, that at times I do not feel like "chatting up" those milling about the store. Once I told her I could read people and she told me I was wrong 90% of the time. I chuckled inside about that because she is such a non-people person, she is a Me Me Me Me person. Any conversation, any statement always makes it way right back to her.

"Heather (Be Thy Name) I have been offered a position at the Mall and I am going to take it. It begins on the 18th and I would like to work part time here. If we could work around the schedule at the Mall."

"Yes, yes. I knew you would find something more suitable to your back ground in time. I was once offered to manager a Mall. But I decided against it....let me know your hours and we will work around it."

She does it to the college kids who desperately need affirmation and encouragement. If one makes the Dean List, Heather Be Thy Name makes sure they know she was on the Deans List for 20 years, because that is how long she went to school to get her 25 degrees.

Anyway, she pissed me off and I am keeping a diary of my work day at Biscuit Bucket, my sales and my executed duties and how well I boss around Candy and maybe Miss Wilma. Miss Wilma is nice enough to let me coach her in the finer art of placing a package of salt water taffy on the top row of the food wall.

Candy will let me instruct her to turn off the lights and for God's Sake, turn down that infernal CD player. Yuck.

It interferes with the sound track of Pleasing People Music. You know the one, it pounds out Zac Brown and George Jones and Dolly.

Day 152

Grace in small things
152/365
Thursday April 29th

1) Well, Well Well, Jimmy V. shows up at the Mall a.k.a. The Boyfriend, our mob boss from Ohio (doesn't that sound funny).

2) The day before we were going over the account payables and I had not updated and printed the payments for several months, just putting them in by hand. I had made a project to get it accomplished and Thank God, the Mob boss asked to see it. Ms. Ice Queen came out and asked for it (Remember this was a surprise visit) with a scowl on her face anticipating what she was going to see - I was so proud of myself for being so Proactive. (hahahahah)

3) While I was fixing the payables book I had taken out the three hole punch to assemble the pages. I remembered at The Beverage company this particular employee always kept the # hole punch at this desk for safe keeping and every time I used it I ended up scattering the debris all over his desk. It became my signature to him to let him know. Kinw I had been there. I took all those little pieces and folded them up in an envelope and mailed it to him at work addressed "personal and confidential". I hope he finds it as hilarious as I do.

4) Had my Personal Assessment or Eval as Biscuit Bucket calls it (it was awaful, but more on that later) and it was fast and furious and I went home.

5) Payday on both fronts. Yay.

Day 151

151/365
Grace in Small Things
April 28th Wednesday

1) Working with my two favorite people at Cracker Barrel, Wilma & Candy.

2) Making a bid in Price-line with the Negotiator and getting a deal.

3) Being able to record a comedy on the DVD and knowing it will be there when I get home.

4) Joe buying a bag of those three color sugar cookies and sharing them with me. Reminds me of Dad,as these were his favorite cookies (hi Dad!).

5) Mom made joke about her "formication" problem. Supposedly a condition that accompanies aging. Dear lord.

15 Minutes to Kick

At the end of last week I thought I was going to look forward to spending the last 15 minutes of each day writing a quick out pouring of thought. Then reality set in. Reality in the form of people sitting around trying to kill some time by talking to me! And horrors! I had some work to attend to. But just this minute, just a few moments ago everyone vacated the office to go have a look see of a stage they are setting up and tying up some loose ends before our huge event this week-end - so I thought, "Here's my chance!'

Yesterday I read some very disparaging remarks about our president on Face Book written by some guy I use to know and approved with that little thumbs up gizmo by another guy I barely knew or actually can't remember one iota. I could not control myself, I wrote "I'm surprised".

And then I worried, because I do not like to get into any political arguments. I am way out of my element.

But what I do know is I turn off, I don't listen, the curtain comes down when it becomes personal. When the issues are set aside and the mud is slung.

I truly believe that if you want change (and I was aghast at a T-shirt someone was wearing at the Biscuit Bucket "I'll keep my Money, My Guns, My freedoms and you can keep the change" he was accompanied by a girl wearing the Confederate Flag on her back. Good Lord!) then you run for office. It is ineffective to criticise and demoralize our elected officials with abusive attacks. It takes away and cheapens the point you are trying to make.

You either have a sound alternative point of view backed up with a logical difference of opinion or you resort to you attack with inane jokes and thinly veiled racism.

At best it's immature and at worst, mean spirited.

I wanted to write this whole litany to my old college buddy, but I didn't.

He replied to my comment with, "Surprised that he is 2nd (worst president ever)?'

"I'm surprised at you" I wrote back.

"I'll take that as a good thing" he replied further.

I always did like him, even if I disagree with his politics.

Day 150

150/365
Grace in Small Things
April 27th

1) No work at Biscuit Bucket!

2) Took a nap with my head in Joe's lap.

3) Made an appt. to have my hair fixed, I mean styled.

4) Designing a great logo for Three Sisters Salt Scrub.

5) Pink 24 lb. paper from Office Depot.

Day 149 - Catching up.

149/365
Grace in Small Things
April 26th Monday

1) Found my small voice recorder in the storage area. When I fired it up I listened to myself describing Ft. Wayne for the 1st time over five years ago.

2) I was shown some stuff on FB by my boss about accessing our Mall and as I left I said, "Thanks for hipping me dude". I turned and said, "That's from a movie", and he began to "sing" the first couple of bars from Tequila! Cool guy - he knew!

3) Lunch at Dairy Queen. $2 off coupon. Love that chicken tender basket.

4) A bag of Pine chips flew off the back of a truck I was following on the way to work. I was cautious of his load as I saw him pull on the two lane highway way ahead of me. So I was on HIGH ALERT and when it flew off the back, I was ready to dodge it. Of course I was not traveling too close behind him either.I am so thankful to my guardian angel who once again saved me on this perilous six mile stretch I travel several times a day. Holy Moly.

5) Finding the Jeff Probst blog about Survivor. Very cool. Must watch out because of spoilers.

Day 148 - Will it ever end??

148/365
Grace in Small things
Sunday April 25th

1) Made a batch of Almond oil and bath salts with peppermint oil. Yummy.

2) I found myself home alone all morning. Can not remember the last time I was alone - all alone. Intoxicating.

3) On the way to Biscuit Bucket I saw a family flying kites. I wanted to stop and play with them.

4) Pancakes for breakfast. I love Sunday's.

5) Soaked in a bubble bath and used some peppermint body scrub. Oh wow.

Day 147

Saturday April 24
Grace in Small things
147/365

1) Made 1st batch of Dead Sea Salt scrub.....need some work. lol.

2) Bon Appetite arrived - always a good day when B-A arrives.

3) Had the most spectacular thunder and lightening storm. We avoided the hail and tornado's where we live - so it was just a spectacular affair.

4) Because I had a hankering for some red meat, bought the most beautiful roast beef ever.

5) Found out it's not stinky cat poop, but a rotten potato!

Sunday, April 25, 2010

Day 146

Friday April 23rd.
Griace in Small Things
145/365

1) Received the tax bill for the IN house and it was reduced back to normal. thank God.

2) I'm writing something other than GiST entries. Finally. Even if they are only trashy quickly written posts, at least it's something. I must be feeling better.

3) Got to work on time. First time all week. Every day one minute late, two minutes later. Every day! Yes, this stupid rule about Marketing has to clock in b/c years ago some drug addict Mkt. Director took full advantage of the non-clocking policy. We all suffer for it now.

4) The whole office (all four of us - lol) are FB friends now.

5) Due to the unfaltering diligence of Ms. Wilma and myself, we made the sales goal for the week for the retail store at Biscuit Bucket. I was soooo skeptical that we would pull it off, but thanks to one over the top hour,we did it. We were even a hundred + over for the sales goal.

Day 145

Thursday April 22nd
Grace in Small Things
145/365

1) Spell check

2) E-Mail from old Beverage Co. buddy. I cried. Well, I teared up. Ms. Wilma told me, "It's the water you're drinking". She is a 70+ little Spit Fire who works at the Biscuit Bucket with me. An ex-principal for the Ft. Campbell school and she knows practically every local who walks thru the door. She either taught them or taught their children. She put her hand over her mouth, "I never would have said something like that before" she said. I think she was proud of herself for having such a witty one liner about my tearing up any time I talk about Central Ky, my family, my friends.

3)Since somebody is out of checks at the moment I remembered I could take the debit card and get Money Orders. Saved the day!

4) Joe and I had a good laugh about him trying to throw some of my stuff out behind my back. I was tossing something into the trash can and noticed it was extremely heavy so I looked inside. Son of a Biscuit eating Dog, there was a pile of National Geographic and the broken monitor. Instead of blowing up, I stood in the middle of the kitchen and asked, "Did you take the garbage to the curb for pick up this morning?" He flounder around with a "Yes I did, no you did" (which I had), "Well, it seems like it's full!' He began laughing and then I began laughing and then I reminded him of when he almost killed me throwing out my valuable prints in Ft. Wayne thinking they looked like garbage to him. Never ever throw any of my stuff away. Then I added that he could be throwing away my childhood books my Dad gave me! Nothing like a good old guilt trip to get my point across. I went to work and told Candi about the National Geographic and teared up, "They could have been the 1969 Man walks on the Moon issue!'. It's the water I'm drinking.

5) Ms. Ice Queen told me she has an idea for a business in C-ville. It's huge! She needs investors etc. etc. etc. She said she would like for me to come work for her when it happens. Wow. She likes me, she really likes me!

Day 144

Grace in Small Things
144/365
wednesday April 23
Administrative Professional Appreciation Day

1) It's good to work in a Mall. You know all the significant holidays.
2) Began day with gift on my desk from The Ice Queen (that is what the Prop Mgr calls her)(and it seems more apropos for the moment until I come up with something better, b/c she really is not an IQ, she is only drawn that way) a nice card and a candle. I thought it was for all the good work I had done for the Peter F. dog and pony show "coming soon to a Mall near you" but no, it's because it's Administrative Professional Day!
3) The Ice Queen and Prop Mgr. bought Mrs. Long Suffering and I lunch from Backyard Burgers (I think). It was goooooooood.
4) Then went to work at Biscuit Bucket and when I bought some Zac Brown cd's (for my on-line business) I was rewarded with a non-advertised promo of BOGO 1/2 off. Yea.
5) Decided that the shipping costs associated with essential oil's was too outrageous to have any advantage of not driving to Nashville for a shopping spree - but went across the street and kept my $'s in C-ville by finding lime oil and peppermint oil at the Herb's and Vitamin store. Rewarded with finding a 16 oz. bottle of sweet almond oil. Sweet. (lol).

15 Minutes to Execute

Looks like this may be the next best thing to a real post. Just let it leak out in little puddles of thought and observations.

I am thinking of starting another blog so I can write about the happenings at the mall. My Alphawoman name is associated with too many things and could very easily land someone on this blog.

It's interesting to just sit here and watch the drama's unfold at this place. And at times I am in on it. Like today I called the Customer Service Booth to have them page a customer who left a package in a retail store. She did answer the hot line between the office and her desk. Twice she did not answer. So I called the kiosk she runs and then, finally she answers. I make my request, "I'm with with a customer" she tells me, "It will be awhile. And is this a medical emergency? I'm not to do it if it's not a medical emergency!" "Forget it" I responded and hung up. She, with her nasty tone had pissed me off.

About 10 minutes later I thought, I should have come back with, "This will be a medical emergency if you don't announce it as I have instructed." Those snappy comebacks always come to me too late.

I had a second telephone conversation that made me want to scream yet again. I am (always) soliciting things for our contests and events. I decided to go to the Complex (i.e. not under the Mall roof, but on the grounds) and ask. This guy totally blew me off. "The Mall does nothing for me! Tell 'Property Manager' hello for me." "That's cold." I said, "Well, I ain't doing nothing". And then he hangs up on me!

I never got a chance to offer him anything in return. I do have something for him! Offer him a week on our marquee!

Isn't it funny how a perfectly great day can be destroyed by a few nasty people?

15 Minutes To Kill

And I thought I would write a bona fide journal entry.

I have found I do not have much to say and if in a moment of clarity I do have something to say, I get over it quick.

I run out of gas at the end of the day. Sitting in one space all day is an art that I have not mastered. My mind wanders and my fingers wander on the computer key board as I try to keep myself from falling asleep.

For some reason I can not remember, thought I am certain it will come back to me as I type this, I found myself transferred to Trip Advisor and a review of a restaurant in Memphis. I noticed that it was ranked and upon further investigation I found that you could just cruise down the list and pick any establishment and read the remarks. Remarks are pretty funny.

Then it dawned on me that I could find the restaurants ranked in Lexington! So I immediately flipped over and had a great 15 minutes reading about the Eating Establishments that I haunted, loved, hated, were my customers, etc. etc. etc. blah blah blah.

Lot of smiles.

The Ho.

Oh yes, Tolly-Ho.

Where did you go after clubbing (we never called it clubbing, we called it .....what did we call it?) We called each other and would say, "Let's go out!" and someone would say, "You buy and I'll fly..." stuff like that from the olden days.

When you were finished flying, drinking, dancing and all that jazz, you would look at each other and say, "Man, I'm hungry." Well, you all know why we were hungry, we were stoned.

After an evening of dancing, smoking and throwing back salty dogs or gin gimlets (we were a nutty group) we'd pool our money to see what we had left. Usually it was not much.

So, it was off to the Tolly-Ho, a dive on the University of Kentucky's campus. For about $1.00 or so (remember this was back when Disco was king and dinosaurs roamed the Earth) you could eat.

Anyway, because my 15 minutes is almost up, it appears as one of the top restaurants in Lexington. I think this has to be because of the nostalgia attached to it. You were young and or a college student in Lexington and needed to eat at 3 o'clock in the morning - you knew the Ho.

This deserves more than a bored 15 minutes - more later.

Day 143

Tuesday April 20th
Grace in Small Things
143/365

1) Made a visit to one of my favorite stores that I never get to because it is on the other side of town and I am hardly ever over there...Tuesday Morning. Found thousands of things I wanted (now I know why Biscuit Bucket appeals to me so) but bought only one set of cards for $4.99.

2) Found my good buddy BF on FB (isn't that toooooo funny) yesterday. I was sitting at my desk (I'm always sitting at my desk, I am going to get a big butt) typing in all the churches from the Saturday Worship page because I am committed to contacting all of them for the upcoming Senior Expo....and as I typed in the Unitarian Church information my mind, as wasted and numb as could be ideal for thoughts and fragments of ideas to enter, lit upon BF who at one time attended the Unitarian Church (I think a girl was involved) even though he is Catholic like me. So I looked him up on FB and oh my gosh! I found him! So I sent him this cryptic message "Is this the BF who single handedly tried to take out the coke fleet on one hot sweaty Bluegrass Fair/Bengal Camp sort of day?" - (I always send snappy notes like this to those I am trying to Friend on FB, just in case they are not who I think they are). And it was him! I was crying this morning when I got the return message from him. I loved him like a son - the son I never had.

3) Sea Salt arrived and it is beautiful (had to mail order it as I do not live in a civilized place).

4) Received a card from one of my college friends.

5) Got Gevalea coffee in the mail. Good Lord I love that stuff. Everyone now knows what they will be getting for Christmas.

Tuesday, April 20, 2010

Day 142

142/365
April 19, 2010
Monday
Grace in Small Things

1) Those thermal heat things...got a free back one in the mail and decided to wrap it around my knee that is giving me fits. Those dag gone things work!
2) Joking with Mrs. Long Suffering about her idea for writing a book about the shenanigans in the Mall over the past 13 years she has worked. She was telling me about a housekeeping person and a security guard hooking up - finding true love. They were seen kissing all the time all over the Mall. I said, "Hey, when your book is converted into a movie it would be hilarious to have them in the back ground in all the scenes - you know, kissing." At lease I thought it would be comical. Genius almost.
3) Wrote out my schedule for the Mall and when I would be available for the Biscuit Bucket and then I typed it out. I handed it to Heather-Be-Thy name at work and she looked very panicked. It made me feel honored (and kind of cocky) that she was freaking out thinking I was handing in my resignation.
4) Some kid threw up trying to make it to the bathroom. And one of the cashiers came right over and helped clean it up. I went into the bathroom and stuck two pieces of toilet paper in my nose. (I just have to...).....The cashier was a guy! The jury was out on if I liked him or not. I have a healthy respect for him now.
5) The cat's were sleeping on the bed and the Black and White one had Three Legged Cat's tail clutched in between his paws - picture to follow. (It was so cute).

Day 141

Grace in Small Things
Sunday April 18
141/365

1) Finding the Topsy Turvy at Walmart.
2) Spending hours planting flowers in pot and tomato's in the Topsy Turvy.
3) Beatle show on TV. And thank God I have a DVR!
4) Sales at Amazon have resumed after some cut throat low baller ran out of product. I will never run out of product (hahah).
5) Having a phone conversation with my Mom who made me laugh with a funny story about my Aunt.

Day 140

140/365
Grace in Small Things
Saturday
April 17th

1) Meeting the Mayor at Biscuit Bucket. Have not worked a Saturday almost all year. And I was planning to e-mail him about an event at the Mall. Kismet.
2) Finding English Liquorice allsorts at ALDI. A whole box for $3.49. I am in heaven. Very good stuff too.
3) Slept for 10 hours! I was tired.
4) I like how everyone in the south is called "Miss" regardless of age, like "Miss Mary" and "Miss Linda" it's very quaint.
5) Going to the Rivers and Spires festival with my honey.

Day 139

April 16th
Grace in Small Things

1) Seeing Sarah at the Mall.
2) Finding little 4 oz. glass mason jars at Walmart
3) Finding "making cosmetics at home" book at library.
4) It's Pay Day!
5) Spoke out loud about the Farmers Market and my plan to have a booth. No one paid any attention. OK. For some reason I am slightly embarrassed.

Friday, April 16, 2010

Day 138

Grace in Small Things
138/365
April 15th

1) Worked at Biscuit Bucket and was glad I did. Missed everyone.

2) Have this project at work of begging...I mean asking for sponsorship/support for various events and activities that are constantly presenting themselves. I am thinking outside the box (how I hate that term) (but I am) to not constantly ask the same people and burn them out. And honestly, I'm having great success. I'm getting much better on the phone, though I thought I preferred face to face, it just ain't gonna happen with Mrs. Long Suffering in and out in her now sporadic M.O.

3) Finding my Blue Monday candy bar in my purse. It's Thursday and I have had bar since Sunday. ( You can only get them in Central KY or maybe on line). I am going to save it for a special breakdown, I mean occasion.

4) Having AVON bag waiting for me at work with goodies. How I love those goodies.

5) One of the college kids at Biscuit Bucket asked me for help on a project she has been assigned. It is a Special Event exercise that requires her to throw a Retirement Party in Memphis. I looked up several venues for her and emailed a link to my favorite. Now granted, taken out of context the link was sort of a non sequitur, just a slide show of the museum with tables all dolled up and a piano in the back ground. "I love it" I wrote. She e-mailed me back and said, "Here is a link I found, what do you think?" and when I opened it it was for a Golf Simulator. I laughed out loud, very loud which caused a disruption in the office ( that tends to happen when someone just begins laughing for no reason). I love smart alec kids.

Day 137

Grace in Small Things
137/365
Wednesday April 14th

1) Up at 330am (yuck) and did my taxes. Hey! I'm getting money back. Shocker. Another shocker, had taxes done day before dead line!

2) New Running shoes.

3) Found misplaced letter in glove box. Was # 3 on my "must do" list. Still have #4 to accomplish!

4) Ran again!

5) It was me that opened the mail box and brought in the mail. I don't know why I love to do that but I do. I'm always afraid Joe is going to misplace it (and he has).

Day 136

grace in Small Things
136/365
Tuesday April 13th

1) Mrs. Long Suffering came into the office (late) and gave me a Butterfinger Milk Shake in appreciation of my support at the office holding down the fort while she attended to her husband and bringing him home from the hospital.

2) Continued to do the run/walk early in the morning with the birds.

3) Found another cool store, the Country Pantry, operated by the Amish. Located about two miles outside of Tiny Town on the way to Less Tiny Town. Will visit over week-end. Was hipped to store by lady at Vitamin and Herb shop.

4) Made BBQ chicken legs and was able to recreate my killer sauce -

5) Ran/Walked again.

Day 135

Grace in Small Things
135/365
April 12th - Monday

1) Calling Biscuit Bucket for my schedule and once again, did not have to go in!

2) Made pan fried chicken with smidge of coconut oil - yummy.

3) Still crazy after all these years, looking for Sea Salt and called it Rock Salt at Hobby Lobby and they told me to go to Walmart they would have it and I told them I did go to Walmart and they only had a 16 oz. shaker in the spice aisle. They gave me a funny look and it was only afterwards that I realized what I had asked for.

4) Found a Herb & Vitamin store right across the street from the Mall.

5) Now I am taking vitamins again (yay).

Day 134

April 11th
Grace in Small Things

1) Second day we went for a run/walk! Around the hotel area. Beautiful morning with birds singing.

2) Seeing the Grand babies. They are so cute.

3) A Easter celebration at my Mom's. One of her buddies from NYC was in town and we love her. Joe even made an appearance! My bro's and sis's SIL's and BIL's, nephews and nieces were beginning to think I had cut his head off (to see how much it weighed - see March )it had been so long since they had seen him. Photo-op. Though when I got home I sadly realized I did not hand my camera over for a group pic. Oh well, my Mom will have one.

4) Received my belated Birthday present from Omega. It was very nice. Included a Julia Child book, a new moleskine (one can never have too many) and a bottle of wine to name a few of the goodies in the bag.

5) Meeting my new tenant in Louisville in a Mall at St. Matthew's. One tends to take a closer look when one is in the biz. And my new tenant is sooooo cute.

Day 133

Grace in Small Things
April 10th

1) Event at Mall and the Fashion Board girl did not show and I had to read the Cat in the Hat to a bunch of screaming, laughing, screeching, lovable children. It was neat-o.

2) A mini-vaca to Bowling Green to meet up with some friends from Joe's old company.

3) Had a delicious dinner at a restaurant in the Square. Exceptionally delicious raspberry lemonade martini's.

4) Stayed at a very swanky hotel and received a rate that was exclusive to a local company!

5) Joe and I took a run/walk in Tiny Town to begin preparing for the race (May 2) (lol)

Day 132

132/365
April 9, 2010
Grace in Small Things

1) Over one third the way through doing this challenge. You would not think it is difficult, but it is! Hence, the grace in being over the 1/3 of the way.

2) Cat on the next door roof - again - and Joe being the Hero - again.

3) Brain storming for a Farmer Market item!

4) Joe and I committed to participating in the Queen City Run on May 2nd.

5) Heather Be Thy Name called and said she was over on hours for the week and I did not have to come in. Hmmmmmm, this makes twice this week she has done this to me. I have three hours for the week. Thinking about applying at a Book store across the Mall and working part time at night there.

Grace in Small Things
April 8, 2010

1) Tour of Radio Station - fun.

2) Achieved manager status finally. Means being MOD for a week-end every month. But I also get a day off during the week instead of day after day after day of work work work.

3) Finished book #11 (I think) Drawing in the Dust by Zoe Klein.

4) Finally, half price candy at Walmart.

5) My Senior Fair & Expo is shaping up to be a success. Keeping my fingers crossed. The State Parks called and inquired about a booth! This is my baby. I scoffed when she (Ms. Introvert - I am going to have to come with a new name for her) told me we were having a Senior Fashion Show and we were getting "models" from the local Nursing Homes. "You do know that AARP starts soliciting membership at 50? That is hardly Nursing Home material?" and then I ran with it. I have developed a target mailing list and wrote a most persuasive cover letter (our usual mailings do not include a letter pointing out benefits and backed up with features!) and then I am on the verge of following up my mailing with phone calls. Anyway, I am very encouraged that my first show has legs.

April 7th
Grace in Small things

1) Being able to reserve books at the library & having them call you with-in two weeks that they are available.

2) Strawberries coming into season and cheap at the grocery store.

3) Watching an old Gunsmoke episode with my husband (did you know that Burt Reynolds use to appear on Gunsmoke?) and Marshal Dillon chases this old bad guy (played by Ben Johnson) to a saloon in another town. When Matt gets there he begins to look around the saloon for his target. The camera pulls down to the floor and shows Matt walking around, the high heels on the saloon girls (High heels????) and the dirty boots of the cow pokes, Marshal Dillon's boots as he surveys - it was a really cool shot and to think! 1960's TV was shot with such a cool hand. Both Joe and I remarked on how awesome the scene was.

4) Later on that night my second favorite SouthPark episode came on "A.W.E.S.O.M.-O."
Have I ever mentioned how much I love Cartman? My husband rolls his eyes. My favorite episode is when Cartman freezes himself because he can not wait for a new video game to be released. He is frozen for a long time and is discovered in the future. He uses some time transport telephone to call himself "back in time" - it's hilarious (at least I think so).

5) I fell asleep last night and awoke in the middle of a big thunder storm! thank God, the Three Legged Cat was outside, hiding under one of our cars. He came tearing in when I opened the door. Then I enjoyed the thunder and lightening for a little while before falling back asleep.

April 6th, 2010
Grace in Small Things

1) Received a post card from Gayle (hi Gayle!)

2) Found Bunny Bubbles, the kind where you press the belly of the bottle and the wand comes up and then you blow. Found in colors of pink, purple and yellow. Half price!

3) Stepped out on the front porch to break up a cat wallowing fight and the thick dusky perfume that floated to me and engulfed all in its path - oh my. Why doesn't it stay all spring summer? Why does it give way to an average prickly bush?

4) See Rock City Barn. I thank my lucky stars I knew you existed before progress took you down and put a MacMansion on your majestic hill.

5) Made dinner at home. Yummy sweet potato slices and zucchini and chicken.

128

Grace in Small Things
April 5th, 2010

1) Diet Mt. Dew. While working for the other major soft drink beverage company I made the promise not to partake of the others product. Oh the joy of gulping down that sweet golden dew!

2) We had a cook out at the Mall for the three departments - Ops/Mkt, Security and Housekeeping. It was good eating.

3) I have been "approved" as a mystery shopper for the area. I await my first assignment.

4) The most amazing spot remover helped get that pesky red stain from the back of my favorite gossamer shirt! I have carried it around for two years trying everything and then - suddenly - a simple application of Shout it Out and some work with a toothbrush and it has vanished!

5) Spoke to my daughter and as I hung up I realized she had not asked me for money in a long long time (at least six weeks). Rejoice!

April Fourth

Grace in Small things
127/365

1) Cleaned out the storage unit.

2) Found some misplaced awesome stuff.

3) Like the small hand recorder. It's about 20 years old but still works. When I rewound the tape, after popping in a new battery, I listened to myself five years ago driving around Ft. Wayne and recording my first impressions of the area. We had a small snowfall that first week-end. I was flipping out about the amount of snow that fell one afternoon as I lazied around watching TV. I remember that night very well. I do not need my voice (oh it sounded liquid and languid, low and throaty...) to remember that I opened the very last beer and drank half of it and put the cap back on and returned it to the fridge. It was a Strawberry Blend from Mad Anthony's. When Joe came home he raised Cain with me about drinking the last beer. "I did not, I left you half". I slammed out the door and drove to the closest food store in a blinding snow storm. You know that kind, where everything is that sickly orange yellow from the street lamps? Thinking, "I'm a southerner! I shouldn't be out in this weather!" And when I got to the store I found out, the hard way, they do not sell cold beer at the food stores, only at liquor stores (go figure). I drove back home in a blinding snow storm and presented Joe with hot beer. He was not amused. And five years later he still brings it up.

3) Reading the local paper. We have the paper delived to the Mall. It is part of my duties to read the paper and point out anything that might be of interest. In the beginning I hated the paper here. I am use to the Courier Journal which is a terrific paper. And the Lex. Leader which is pretty good too. The L/C is a rag! But as I adjust to the community I am beginning to piece together the dynamics of the city and the week-end papers are the best. I am tempted to hook up my scanner to share one of the photo's.

4) Got all ready to go into work at the Biscuit Bucket, well almost all ready. I was preparing to iron my shirt and I decided to check my cell phone. Three messages. One was from Heather-be-Thy-Name (AKA Queen of the Damned) and there was a message not to come in. Too slow. Unexpected whole week-end off.

5) I celebrated with a beer laced with Ruby Red Grapefruit juice.

Grace in Small Things
April 3rd

1) Road trip to Nashville early - rolled out of bed at 5am (again) on day off. We trucked there to pick up Joe's car, which he left picking up new motorcycle. We stopped at the Biscuit Bucket there for a hearty breakfast and it began to rain. We ran to our respective cars and dodged rain drops. The wind and rain whipped the tiny spring blooms from the Bradford Pears and Dogwoods and they were flying through the air like snow - just like Ireland the day we visited The Cliffs of Moher.

2) Military-ville is opening up to me. I found an funky wonderful Antique Mall in an old converted Hardware Store Warehouse on the main drag. Found tiny bird houses and a whimsical salt and pepper shaker and a hundred other items I wanted to purchase.

3) Met a nice lady married to a gent from Central KY. We spoke about how beautiful C.KY is and how we long to return.

4) Trip to Hobby Lobby and finding a sunflowers for the office. (it does need some color as it has no Chippendale's for decoration)

5) Made the most killer barbecue sauce ever! It keeps getting better and better. Joe commented it was better than anything commercial or home made he had tasted. Which inspired me to write it down.

April Showers

April 2nd
Grace in Small Things
125/365

1) Joe finds new motorcycle and is so happy. It's a trip to see him so happy. Bike is lighter than the Rune and easier to handle, but not as fast.

2) Almost giddy with the prospect of opening a bank account in Military town!

3) Found a Ft. Wayne co-worker on Face Book. What did I call him - Mr. Cool Good looking? I vividly remember meeting him my first day on the job. I was going in the front door and there he was. Cool, sweet and drop dead pretty. And a great guy the year and a half I worked with him. I also remember going through all the stuff one does when one starts a job and then walking back to the the "office" (a 15x8 foot room with four desks and a filing cabinet!!) to be introduced to the rest of the department, "Mother of God" I blurted, "A room full of Chippendale's!" (I am taking poetic license with what I actually said, but they certainly were three of the best looking men I ever encountered smashed in a tiny room!) (The Smart Alec's and the Hunk! That's what I called him, The Hunk)

4) Found my lost MP3 player.

5) The thrill of having paid off the motorcycle.

April's Fool

Grace in Small Things
April 1st
124/365

1) Mafia arrives and they look nothing like Tony Soprano, more like A.J. In other words, very young.

2) We pass inspection, though E. takes picture of me and Mrs. Long Suffering and our work space. "That's so she can study it at the Bada Bing" Mrs. Long Suffering tells me, "She hates clutter and will scrutinize the photo".

3) Joe sells motorcycle to WOW in Atlanta. Joe tells them he has a buyer interested and they offer him $1500 more - in cash - than he has listed for the RUNE. Joe rushes into office to tell me b/c I have left (again) my cell phone at home!

4) We ride to Port Royal for a Mexican dinner at this little place I read about in the newspaper. Can't find it! Port Royal is a little settlement on the Red River. And I do mean little! Just a funky gas station and grocery store. Oh snap! There it is! Closed at 6pm. What kind of place is this. Lovely drive though.

5) Survivor is so much fun to watch. Goodbye Boston Rob.

Wednesday

March 31st
Grace in Small Things
123/365

1) Avon stuff! New lipsticks. One way too red. Yuck! But only cost me $3.00 to find out.

2) A miracle has occurred with Mrs. Long Suffering. Her husband, who had a cerebral bleed suddenly asked where he was and was astonished to realize he'd been in a hospital for nearly a month! His brain is recovering in leaps and bounds. I am so happy for her.

3) Something triggered a nice old memory of my good friend C.F. who I no longer see because of her addiction problems and how she - well, you all know -. A wonderful memory of a time long ago.

4) Spit shining the office and Mall. Sooooooooooo glad I do not have the stress and pressure any longer that accompanies responsibilities. I am, after all, paid the very least of all salaried employees as the Property Manager gleefully tells me. I have yet to understand why he did that. I could have lived 1,000 years and not have to know that sad truth. Yet, I smile inside that it is not me whose job is on the line when the Mafia arrives.

5) Joe has a solid offer on the RUNE.

Survived to Greet another Day

Grace in small things
March 30th
122/365

1) Put house on Craigslist and had two people wanting to look at the house within six hours.

2) Painting toe nails, a spring thing.

3) Guy at work who was flirting with me and it took me awhile to realize it! Then I laughed.

4) Decorating a kiosk - it was fun!

5) The zen like calmness and the satisfaction of organizing a mess stock room.

WORST DAY EVER IN A LONG TIME

Grace in Small Things
March 29th
121/364

1) Begin day by opening an e-mail from my renters in Indiana telling me they have bought a home and are moving around April 19th.
2) Landlord meets Joe at home and tells him they are going to tear up all the bushes in front of the house. I freak out. "Did you ask them why?" "No, it's their house, they can do what they want." "But why??" I insist, "You know I didn't rent that house in Military Town because of the landscaping - lack of. that house looked un-loved. This is terrible." I choke up at work.
3) Tell Mrs. Long Suffering that things come in threes and I'm waiting. Then I lose one of my favorite earrings, a beautiful violet jade ball. That was three.
4) Have to go to work at Biscuit Bucket and be nice to everyone.
5) Joe is upset because we have put his motorcycle on Craigslist and he has lowered the price and it still is not selling. Only some crazy guy, driving Joe nuts with his questions and accusations about the Rune.

The Grace part

1) At least I am able to own a home.
2) The removal of all the bushes will give me an opportunity to adorn the front with flowers and my own brand of yard art.
3) I still have my jewelry making kit. Maybe I can find a jade ball a similar shade and make a match.
4) I am blessed to have a second job to make ends meet and start a savings account.
5) Interest in the high priced RUNE.

I'm Lost in this GiST's

120/365
Sunday March 28th.

1) Quiet time at home (alone)
2) No one mentioned UK causing me to burst into tears
3) While on the way home from Biscuit Bucket at 1130pm it was so dark. The two lane highway stretch that connects Tiny Town with Military Town is unlit and spooky. A moonless night and I thought, "Turn on your brights". As soon as I did I saw two deer, painted ghost white by my beams not 100 feet ahead of me beginning to cross the road. I was able to brake in time to avoid disaster.
4) My guardian angel who rides shot gun sometimes.
5) Two cats waiting for me at the door, my husband asleep on the couch with the TV blaring, also waiting for me.

Saturday oh Saturday, why you wanna do me this way?

Grace in small things

119/365

March 27th

  1. First free day, no going into the Mall for an Easter Egg Hunt, Fashion Show, no Biscuit Bucket, no trips home – nothing, in 21 days.
  2. Yet, I was up at 5am (don't want a single minute of this day wasted!) hearing a cat crying and Joe muttering and moving large objects around. I fell out of bed and found Joe next door standing on a high foot stool trying to persuade the Black and White (Edward) to jump from the roof into the laundry basket. I brought over a bowl of food and still the cat would not leap to his freedom. So we chanced it and went to the front entrance porch and finally was able to drag the cat off the roof and not get shot in the process. Joe the Hero.
  3. Trip to ALDI and once again a lady did not have enough money to pay her bill. As any ALDI junkie knows, only cash and debit cards. And as any ALDI junkie knows the lines move incredibly fast, probably because you do the bagging – anyway, the line lengthened and we became aware of this woman's problem and we all took up a collection and finished paying her bill. It was really cool.
  4. UK loses to West Virginia (just as the jerk in Biscuit Bucket predicted, damn him). But, it was the best season ever. Well, at least in the past 12 years. It was so much fun and so exciting to watch this group of players really make us believe in the powerhouse of UK Blue again. Next Year.
  5. Got Direct TV hooked up so now we have a DVR.

Freaky Friday

Grace in Small Things

118/365

March 26

  1. Lost five pounds since last time I weighed myself (maybe January)
  2. Held my tongue while some Tennessee Blow Hard trashed UK at Biscuit Bucket
  3. Chris bought me lunch at the mall (blew life style change, but will start again tomorrow – old WW philosophy)
  4. Day finally ended. At times I thought it never would.
  5. Spent time working with Kim, who is an angel and really got the store ready for closing. I had little to do and hit that door at 11pm sharp!

Wednesday Already

March 24th

Grace in Small Things

1.First trip to Tiny Town Produce which opened a few days ago. This is the handy little road side source of flowers, plants, jar honey and jellies and fresh veggies that sits on the main drag to my house. Ah, finally some red pepper jelly and early tomatoes.

2.New summerish pants. But (!) they have a small slit in one of the seams …… ahhh, my new sewing machine!

3.Text message from daughter telling me she loves and misses me.

4.Heated up chicken and rice – stuck to life style change eating.

5.Passed on donuts at work.

Slow Week for Graces

March 25th

117/365

  1. UK Beats Cornell to advance from Sweet Sixteen to Elite Eight
  2. Write a killer sales letter – only been working on it for two day!! (geez)
  3. Got totally soaked in down pour running from Walmart to car. Bags and cartons did not break (yay!)
  4. Made killer popcorn at home with Joe.
  5. Once again, stuck to 1200 calories

I Live in the clouds

Grace in Small Things
115/365
March 23rd

1) Hancock Fabrics has a sale going on where an $129.99 sewing machine was being offered for $69.99. I researched and read the reviews and bought it! I may take it out of the box some day (lol)

2) My Amazon earnings was unexpectedly high!

3) Since I am having a life style change, I tossed out the Carrot Cake cookies after having only one (maybe 150 calories...)

4) Kind of a slow day for small things - but I was home for the evening and turned on NCIS, I wish I had watched it. Instead I watched one of the episodes of Amazing Race.

5) Still a slow grace day, so I drew a picture of my Three Legged Cat all stretched out with his back arched to show off how pretty he is (because I always begin chanting, 'what a pretty kitty....). I can not draw, but I wish you could see it.

Is it really Spring?

Grace in Small Things11

March 22

1) Noticing I had a message on my cell phone and it was my family, Mom and my brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews, bil's and sil's singing Happy Birthday to me. I was not able to attend MY BIRTHDAY PARTY (boo hoo) because I work so frigging much. I almost cried. I did tear up.

2) Everyone one left the office around 3pm and I was all alone. The phone did not ring, no one came bursting in with a fax or a complaint. Only me and my MP3. It was a very nice hour.

3) Then Chris came in as MOD and we chatted for the rest of the day. He told me how much of an impact I was having helping Ms. Introvert out. Then he went on to dish some dirt on Ms. I (note to self, never tell him anything I do not want broad casted around the Mall) which made me understand her a little better.

4) Started a Life style change verses calling it a diet. Will try and consume only 1200 calories a day. Stayed the course for Day One.

5) Went to my second job at Biscuit Bucket and was cranking on all cylinders! Totally awesome!

2) Trip to the Flea Market in Bowling Green with Joe.

3) 44 ounces of local honey - $7!!

4) Smooth shaved legs.

5) Those memory sticks - can't remember what you actually call them, but they are very handy for storage and mobility.

So much to do so why, why weigh?

GRACE IN SMALL THINGS
112/365
March 20th

SPRING IS IN THE AIR

1) Successful Easter Egg Hunt (Welcome to my world)

2) Buying a new bra. The last bra's I bought I did not really look at them (yes, I did not even try them on) and they ended up being padded! OMG! I looked like I was wearing two torpedo's on my chest.

3) New lipstick color.

4) UK beats up Wake Forest and advances to the Sweet 16.

5) An afternoon off! No work until 5pm Sunday. I took a drive out into the country and found fields and fields of daffodils. Wild daffodils.

Why weigh on a sunny day?

March 19th

111/365 - Grace in Small Things

1) My horoscope in the paper has been very positive this past month. I find myself cutting them out and taping them so I can see them every now and then. For example: There's something compelling to your presence.

2) Setting up for the Easter Bunny.

3) A thank you note from Mrs. Long Suffering about our support for her welfare during her husbands illness (he is still not recovered and in a Rehab hospital).

4) A young college student a Biscuit Bucket used me as her example on a Business project. Of course it was all fabricated, but I gave her inspiration!

5) My Martha Stewart magazine subscription finally kicks in.

I'd like to gather all your friends and squish them all into a small swimming pool so I can weigh them, what do ya say?

Grace in small things

1) Suddenly Daffodils everywhere.

2) Greasy lunch of fried foods thinks to a no-show for our presentation.

3) NCAA Basket Ball Tournament begins and UK wins easily to advance.

4) A special thanks to CBS for running the ball games on demand via Internet. I jumped and screamed when Murray State hit a three pointer to win the game in the final second!

5) You are not going to believe this, but Joe invented this drink. You take a cheap beer (try a 24 pack for $13). You add an amount of Ruby Red Grapefruit juice and it is delicious!! I'm telling you, it's fabulous

St Paddy Day

109/365 Grace in Small Things

1) Finding something green to wear. I realized that I do not own anything green that is not a T-shirt.

2) Metamucil.

3) High Beams on the car on a dark night on a lonely country road.

4) I was unable to attend the recently discovered "Civil War Round Table" meeting at Boarders. Imagine my surprise when a lady enters the store and says she has just left the "Civil War meeting"! I almost flipped. I met another lady who is editing old journals written in C-Ville during the Civil War. Too good to be true. They meet the third Wednesday of the month. I'm marking my calendar.

5) Mrs. Long Suffering gave me a Hersey bar. With almonds.

March 16

108 out of 365

Grace in Small Things

1) Rushing home to look for Three Legged Cat who went out around 5am and never returned. He usually comes in when I call him around 7am or so. Joe went home at lunch to look for him but no luck. I walked around the neighborhood -no kitty. I began to talk to people, asking if they had perchance run into a gray Three Legged Cat, a Blue Russian cat. One guy looked down his dogs throat for me, "No cat in there". One nice man, the guy who has a humongous garden behind us, adjacent to the "projects" (If Tiny Town can have projects, it's there!) told me his wife spotted TLC around 4pm, she was looking out the window while she was cooking an early supper, that's why he knows it was around 4, and saw him. She feels sorry for him, thinking he's a stray. "But he's so FAT!" I exclaimed. At least I know he was alive at 4pm and as it was about 6, I felt a lot better about the situation. Around 7ish the black and white is at the front door looking in. I went out side and called "WildThing!" and there he was! Running from the side yard. Running fast. Running so fast that his back leg was coming alongside his front side. Much like a runaway U-Haul.

2) Calling Biscuit Bucket and finding out I did not have to work tonight! I thought did! What a relief.

3) Finally finding a song I have been looking on line for over 10 years! I heard it one while getting ready for work on the Morning Show. Joe and I called it "our love song". Sometimes we would sing it to each other. We thought it went, "I want to cut your head off and see how much it weighs..." But actually we were half right, it goes "I'd like to cut your head off so I could weigh it. Wadda you say?" I finally found it, called "Weigh" by Phish and it still sounds great 10 years later. (I kind of like our version too)

4) While checking my google alerts I ran across a Civil War Historian group who meet at the Borders in our Mall!! And they are meeting on Wednesday night. Public invited. I can't wait!!

5) Reality show marathon on the computer.

I amaze myself sometimes. I can not remember my house address most the time! My phone number? Forget about it! But's Joe's five number car combo? Piece of cake.

2) UK's unbelievable win of the SEC conference tournament!

3) Meeting cancer survivor Judy at Biscuit Bucket Sunday night.

1) Check engine light goes out as mysteriously as it went on.
2) Got to BB in time to hug and say "So-long" to Sarah. Boo-hoo. But, she will still be in town.
3) Rehearsal for the Spring Fashion Show was fast and swift!
